Extreme Sledding

Buy local. The Mad River Rocket Sled was invented in the valley, and is still manufactured right in Warren.

Replace your skis with a sled and take advantage of the winter road closures on Lincoln Gap with the whole family. Park as far as you can drive, and hike the rest of the way (about ¾ of a mile) up the snow-covered road. The knee board-like sleds fly at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour down the steepest sections, or more cautions sledders can wind slowly down the road. The Mad River Rocket has a negative keel that lets you steer and carve your way down the snowy mountain. If you’re nervous to try it on your own, then book a Clearwater Sports Rocket-Snowshoeing adventure where a guide will lead you on a snowshoe hike up Lincoln Gap, and a sled ride back down ($55). Don’t want to buy? The nearby West Hill House Bed and Breakfast provides sleds for their guests, or you can rent them at Clearwater for $15.

Local wines, a mountain-themed room, and a three-course breakfast, if those three things aren’t enough to make you feel warm inside, the crackling fire will be.

If the word vegetarian makes you shudder, and you can’t go a day without a hamburger, then you’ve clearly never been to MINT.
