The returning Nightstick, aside from being uncommonly well named, is a competition-level park and pipe twin-tip for expert slopestylers. With a symmetrical sidecut (tail as wide as tip) on its 84-mm waist and a centered mounting point, it’s fully bi-directional (optimized for backward- as well as forward-direction skiing). Full camber gives it maximum carving power and rebound energy for generating speed into-and boosting high off of-park features and halfpipe walls. It’s a wood-core, carbon-fiber reinforced laminate construction with full-length/height sidewalls. Wood is used for durability and responsiveness; full sidewalls for optimized edge grip and solidity underfoot. (The sidewalls are angled-less edgy than vertical sidewalls and more resistant to damage caused by the opposite ski’s edge.) The Nightstick is mostly metal free, except for a section under the binding, where the addition of metal strengthens binding retention and adds power to the edges underfoot. It’s only sold flat (no binding).
Family-owned Fischer Skis is based in Reid, Austria, where all its skis (and many of those of other brands) are built. Fischer says its factory in Reid is the second largest manufacturer of skis in the world. -J.C.
