The Renegade, which sells for about $300 in many shops, has been a successful model for Fischer among value-minded young skiers. This year it features a stronger, edgier full-sidewall construction (rather than less-expensive and less durable foam-core cap construction). It's an all-mountain twin-tip with a 90 mm waist and directional sidecut (ie, wider in the tip than in the tail, rather than symmetrical, for conventional performance). It's both wider and softer-flexing than the Guru (86 mm), with all-fiberglass reinforcement of the core rather than more expensive carbon fiber. It has a wood-core, laminate construction with full-length/height sidewalls. Wood is used for durability and responsiveness; full sidewalls for optimized edge grip and solidity underfoot. The sidewalls are angled - less edgy than vertical sidewalls and more resistant to damage caused by the opposite ski's edge. Family-owned Fischer Skis is based in Reid, Austria, where all its skis (and many of those of other brands) are built. Fischer says its factory in Reid is the second largest manufacturer of skis in the world.
