What's up with so many people wanting to ski uphill these days? For one thing, it's money in the bank for powder days: build your ski fitness through uphill racing and watch your pals drop off one by one as you charge 'til last chair. For aspiring backcountry skiers, it's also a safe, fun way to get familiar with the gear and movements used by skiers venturing out of bounds. Read an account by a first-time participant here.

If you're local to Colorado—or if you're willing to fly in—come join Skiing Magazine at Arapahoe Basin on Tuesday mornings in December and January for the Dynafit Rise & Shine Rando Series. Beginning at 7:00 am, these friendly, early-morning races are a fun and challenging way to start your day. Come spring, we'll be helping host two afternoon Alpenglow Ascents Rando Challenge events. Here's the beta:

Dynafit Rise & Shine Rando Series #4: January 20
Alpenglow Ascents Rando Challenge #1: March 21 (start: late afternoon, TBD)
Alpenglow Ascents Rando Challenge #2: April 18 (start: late afternoon, TBD)

Prizes are awarded to the top three men and women finishers. Not quite the fastest? Well, we have so many cool prizes from our sponsors that we're giving away a prizes to random finishers. We may even hide a prize on the hill for any lucky competitor to find.
