It’s not news that more skiers and snowboarders are wearing helmets than ever before. But is the market topping out? The helmet companies don’t think so. As freeskiing continues to gain momentum, leading more kids into pipes and parks, and as more pros promote helmet use, the prospects are good that the numbers will only increase. Some manufacturers are banking that this certification (which is not mandatory) will be a big selling point, while others are downplaying its importance. Despite the hullabaloo, more standards mean that stronger, better-fitting helmets will be making their way onto store shelves next season.
