K2 calls the Backup “the most efficient, technical ski mountaineering tool” in its collection. With its narrow width and metal reinforcement, it’s built to make quick, confident work of the worst backcountry conditions yet still be light enough for fast, comfortable touring. It’s a wood-core (paulownia) cap construction weighing in at 1,520 grams at 167 cm. A touch of tip rocker facilitates trail-breaking and enhances downhill performance. All Backside Adventure skis share a number of tour-specific features: Precut skins are sold separately, and the tip and tail have skin-ready attachment holes. The Snowphobic topsheet sheds weight-adding snow (especially when waxed) on the ascent. The flat tail is snow-anchor appropriate.
