Its name was cause for some chairlift snickering, but on snow the Superglide was no joke, winning a Testers' Choice award. It glued itself to the hill and could smooth out any chatter in variable terrain. A friendly, carefree ride, it received high marks for forgiveness, playfulness, and maneuverability. And though it favored groomers, wind-buffed bumps and week-old crud presented no serious problems. "It's hard to make a bad turn with this ski," said one Colorado tester, a professional ski instructor. It's a hop-on-and-go ski with a natural flex and the perfect amount of reboundan advancing intermediate's dream. NOTES: The SuperGlide is a new entry in K2's Supermodels series of frontside-oriented women's all-mountain system skis. With its 80 mm waist and lighter construction, it's designed for lighter-weight experts who intend to split time evenly between groomed and ungroomed snow. It's a metal-free, wood-core, women's-specific K2 Bioflex2 construction, with aspen underfoot (70 percent) for strength and responsiveness and paulownia (30 percent) tip and tail for softer flex and reduced swing weight. In women's skis, K2 uses thinner metal laminates than it the ones used in men's skis to reduce weight and soften flex. HybriTech Sidewall construction combines a sturdy vertical sidewall underfoot for edge grip, lightweight cap fore and aft for supple flex. Available only as a system, it comes with an integrated 11-DIN Marker/K2 ERS binding. K2's All-Terrain Rocker combines 70 percent camber with 30 percent tip/shovel rocker to smooth the ride, enhance forgiveness and improve soft-snow flotation. Mod Technology features an independently acting secondary core, raised above the deck, to focus power transmission where needed and reduce vibrations for better edge grip and high-speed calm. Mod Monic technology features a strategically placed module to further reduce vibrations. Both Mod structures are optimized for female skiers. The pink ribbon on the base signifies K2's support (at least $75,000 annually) for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
