The FX85 is an all mountain ski designed with versatility in mind. It's not a super wide powder ski, but it's not a skinny groomer ski either, placing it right in the middle of the two categories. It has a 119 mm tip and 85 mm waist intended to take on all conditions, and titanal top and bottom layers designed to stabilize the ski. For something similar with the same width, but a bit softer, check out the FX85. And for something similar but wider, check out the FX95 HP and FX95. This ski is part of Kästle's All Mountain Freeride series, which focuses on skis intended to charge through it all, especially burly terrain outside of the groomers. Woodcore made of silver fir is intended to stabilize the ski and promote smooth turns. Hook Free Shovel and Hook Free Tail technologies move the ski's widest points slightly inwards from the tip and tail, designed for better turn initiation and decreased hooking. Dual Rise camber profile is designed to float on powder and other varied conditions, opposed to a classic profile intended for just hardpack snow. Hollowtech technology hollows out the ski's tip, lightening the load and designed to further decrease chatter and other vibrations in the ski. Progressive rise technology gives the tip a gradual rockered profile, designed to float over powder and other various conditions away from the hardpack. Kästle, based in Hohenems, Austria, was founded in 1924. Its U.S. headquarters are in Vail, Colorado.
