The LX82 is the wider of the two models in Kastle's LX series of light, trail-oriented, full-cambered all-mountain skis appropriate for intermediates and light-touch experts. With its 82 mm waist width, it offers a little more flotation in soft-snow than the LX72, ideal for soft Western groomers. It's a cap construction-lighter, less-edgy, more forgiving than a full-laminate/vertical-sidewall construction-but it still has vertical sidewalls underfoot for good edge grip. And it still has full wood core (fir) and two sheets of metal reinforcement for durability, vibration-dampening, and strong torsional rigidity (twist-resistance, which gives the tip and tail firm edge purchase on hard snow). In other words: It's sturdier than the typical cap construction. The LX's straightforward single-radius sidecut is less aggressive than Kastle's usual Elliptical Radius sidecut (which is hookier tip and tail). Full traditional camber ensures maximum rebound energy from turn to turn and positive edge-engagement from tip to tail, but the LX's rounded tail releases and skids readily for easy speed control. The Hollowtech tip is a Kastle signature: All but a thin translucent layer is removed from an egg-shaped cutout in the tip. This reduces swing weight, and because there's less mass, tip vibration is reduced, so the ski is quieter on the snow and hooks up into a carved turn more readily. K
