The Nordica GT 84 Ti EVO, new for 2017, is the top-of-the-line model in Nordica's new GT line of groomed-snow carvers. Built for strong-advanced to expert-level rippers who tip and rip, it's optimized for carving at high speeds on firm, flat snow, but Nordica strives to keep it light and lively. Like the No. 2 model in the line, the GT 80 Ti, it features the Dual version of Nordica's Torsion Bridge Ti laminates: There are two sheets of metal in the GTs (rather than one, as in the wider-waisted NRGY series skis). They're full-width sheets, above and below the core, but Nordica lightens them up by removing portions in a strategic pattern-solid underfoot, for reassuring edge power and high-speed stability, but latticed fore and aft, for low swing weight and edgy-but-not-too-edgy torsional rigidity. (In other words: metal where you need it, not where you don't.) Carbon-fiber reinforcement also helps to keep weight down and performance high. A touch of tip rocker makes turn entries less abrupt and helps for drifting and feathering turns at high speeds. Nordica's new GT series, which replaces its Firearrow collection, is a six-model collection of narrow-waisted hard-snow carvers aimed at skiers who expect to spend most of their time on groomed runs-or want a narrow ski in the quiver for groomer-day fun between storms. The GTs are designed and sold as systems, with sturdy 12-DIN bindings on the top three models and lighter, more affordable 10-DINs on the lower three models. Waist widths range from 84 mm at the top end down to 75 mm. Target ability and level of performance decrease correspondingly-fatter skis for the experts, narrower and less expensive ones for intermediates and novices. Constructions vary accordingly, from strong and edgy at the top end (GT 84 Ti and GT 80 Ti) to light and soft at the bottom (GT 78, GT 75).
