With its 90-mm waist width, the Nordica NRGY 90, which returns unchanged for 2017, offers a little more quickness and edge bite than the top-of-the-line NRGY 100, making it well suited for typical Western softpack or soft-snow days back East. (At this waist width, also consider the new Enforcer 93: more freeride in style, same price, No. 1 in its test category.) Nordica's NRGY series includes four models of all-mountain generalists with waist widths of 100, 90, 85, and 80 mm. They bridge the divide between Nordica's groomed-snow carvers (the narrow-waisted GT models) and its fat freeriders (Patron, Enforcer, Soul Rider), aiming for all-conditions, all-terrain versatility. The key technology, shared by all four models, is Nordica's Torsion Bridge Ti: There's metal in the NRGYs, for high-speed calm and stability, but only one sheet, atop the core, and Nordica lightens it up by removing portions of it in a strategic pattern. It's solid underfoot, for edge power, but latticed fore and aft, for low swing weight and less demanding performance. All models are laminate constructions on wood cores, for durability and responsiveness, with strong, grippy full-height/full-length vertical sidewalls for carving up the hardpack. Traditional camber gives them additional edge grip and rebound energy for carving, but the tip and tail are slightly rockered and tapered, to give the NRGYs some playful looseness and maneuverability in soft snow. All models have the exact same GS-flavor sidecuts, ranging from 15.5 to 21.5 meters, good for medium to long arcs at speed. All are sold flat (no binding).
