Salomon brings back the successful Czar-a past Gold Medal winner in last year's test-unchanged for 2012. Even the graphic remains the same, but the price is lower. It's a capable twin-tipped soft-snow generalist, with enough width and float for deep snow and a quiet confidence in crud. Salomon's Powder Rocker amounts to substantial slow rise throughout the forebody of the ski, yielding excellent flotation and an exceptionally smooth ride in rough terrain. The Czar is a wood-core, double-monocoque (structural cap) construction, with a two-layer cap spanning edge to edge for enhanced power. Salomon's All-Terrain Rocker combines zero camber with a rockered tip, so it will be buoyant in soft snow and smooth-riding in rough terrain, yet still relatively responsive (given its width) on the groomed. Extra wide, reinforced edges are built to be extra durable. Pulse Pad technology-a strip of rubber over the edge-quiets vibrations.
