The all-new MTN Explore 88 is the skinniest ski in Salomon's Backside Backcountry series with an 88 mm waist (at 177 cm), intended for easier climbing while still providing a fun ride down. Semi-Sandwich Sidewall construction utilizes ABS plastic, designed for edge grip and an easier, more maneuverable turning experience. 3D Full Woodcore has a staircase-like structure, which takes out large chunks of wood normally found in other skis, intended to reduce the weight of the ski while keeping stability. MTN Rocker lifts the tip up and off the ground, designed to mow through powder and other conditions outside of the groomers while the tail is slightly lifted as well, intended to absorb chatter and other vibrations. The ski weighs 1220 g (at 169 cm). For something similar but wider, check out the MTN Explore 95 and MTN Lab. The Backside Backcountry series focuses on the increasingly popular ski touring scene, utilizing a variety of technology designed to make your ride up and down the mountain equally smooth. CFX Superfiber, which utilizes carbon and flax laminates, is designed for a lightweight profile. These laminates are also dampened, designed to maintain stability and reduce chatter. Hook Free Taper additionally moves the ski's widest points slightly away from the tip and tail and towards the binding, designed for better turn initiation and reduced hooking, especially in powder and other conditions outside the groomers. If you're a fan of skiing uphill and not just downhill, this might be the best series Salomon has to offer you. Salomon, based in Annecy, France, was founded in 1947. Its U.S. headquarters are in Ogden, Utah.
