The MTN Lab is widest ski in Salomon’s Backside Backcountry ski at 115 mm underfoot, intended for charging deep powder and other snow outside of the groomers. Full Sandwich Sidewall construction utilizes ABS plastic and laminates designed for a lightweight and durable profile. Honeycomb Tip technology lightens this rockered tip, designed for extra floatation and less chatter. The ski also has a long, 24 m radius that furthers the ski’s intention for big mountain skiing, and it weighs 1800 g. For something similar but skinnier, check out the MTN Explore 95 and MTN Explore 88. The Backside Backcountry series focuses on the increasingly popular ski touring scene, utilizing a variety of technology designed to make your ride up and down the mountain equally smooth. CFX Superfiber, which utilizes carbon and flax laminates, is designed for a lightweight profile. These laminates are also dampened, designed to maintain stability and reduce chatter. Hook Free Taper additionally moves the ski’s widest points slightly away from the tip and tail and towards the binding, designed for better turn initiation and reduced hooking, especially in powder and other conditions outside the groomers. If you’re a fan of skiing uphill and not just downhill, this might be the best series Salomon has to offer you. Salomon, based in Annecy, France, was founded in 1947. Its U.S. headquarters are in Ogden, Utah.
