The new Opal was the tes's most nimble, buoyant and playful ski. It has the same sidecut as Salomon's original Origins ski, but a foam core makes it lighter (and more affordable) than its wood-core counterpart. As adept at cranking tight turns as it is at laying out long arcs, it's the test's least demanding ski. (Moscarella called it "cake".) But it lacks precision, edge-grip and stability at high speeds. "A lightweight, feel-good ride for all levels," said Forland.
