The S-Lab is a highly-specialized competition-level randonee racing ski, built to be as lightweight as possible and only minimally skiable by conventional standards. It comes in just one length: 160 cm. Its waist width is a super-slender 68.5 cm. It weighs just 720 grams. It's constructed on a core of airy, light karuba wood and reinforced with a layer of CFX Superfiber (carbon for leightweight strength; flax to dampen vibrations at speed). A section of Koroyd honeycomb lightens the tip and reduces swing weight. The S-Lab Minim is part of Salomon's concerted push into the backcountry market, where the French wintersports giant offers products in every category, from bindings to apparel. It bears the elite "Lab" designation, reserved for vector products co-developed and ridden hard by Salomon athletes. Salomon has been headquartered in Annecy, France, since its founding there in 1947. Along with sister brands Atomic and ArcTeryx, it is a division of Amer Sports of Finland, which acquired it in 2005. Its U.S. headquarters are in Ogden, Utah. -J.C.
