Pro Tailored to the needs of women? Yes. Emasculated? Hardly. The Scarlet is Salomon’s gift to women who rip. The buoyancy of its prodigiously wide waist gives it predictable category-defining flotation in powder. But what awed female testers most was its blend of stability and quickness in crud, of which there was plenty on a busy Snowbird powder day. That’s not surprising, given that Salomon built it using its dampest, stoutest construction, a double-wall cap over a wood core. Salomon bills the Scarlet as "the real deal" for experts who won’t be coddled, and the testers enthusiastically concurred. "They’re heavy in a good way—stable, sleek and fast," said Curtis. "But they’re plenty quick in tight spots, and they love the steep and deep." Con With width comes some heft—too much for some women.
