The 2017 Salomon TNT is an all-purpose newschool twintip, priced for value and built to take a beating in the park, on the streets, or anywhere on the mountain. It's an economical cap construction with a wood core for durability and responsiveness. It's reinforced with a single sheet of metal. It's virtually identical in shape to the athlete-level NFX Lab, with the same low taper angle (the tail is only 7 mm narrower than the tip) that makes both models comfortable going backward as well as forward. And as with the NFX, its edges are extra burly and reinforced to withstand punishment, and its base material is also extra durable. The TNT is the value model in Salomon's Freestyle collection, which includes three twintips in waist widths of 100, 86, and 85 mm. All are sold flat (no binding). Salomon has been headquartered in Annecy, France, since its founding there in 1947. Along with sister brands Atomic and ArcTeryx, it is a division of Amer Sports of Finland, which acquired it in 2005. Its U.S. headquarters are in Ogden, Utah. -J.C.
