Like the Powd'Air, the Crus'Air is a high-tech, high-dollar mountaineering ski built with full sheets of carbon (which are revealed by cutaways in the top sheet). But it's narrower, at 92 mm (179 cm length), and therefore quicker, lighter and edgier. The Mountain series of AT/backcountry skis expands with two new models for 2013-14, the Rock'Air and the Surf Air. All models in the five-ski series are built for maximum weight savings with lightweight paulownia wood cores that have hollow chambers milled out from tip to tail to reduce material weight. All models also have the integrity of laminate layup and edge power of full-length vertical sidewalls. The Rock'Air, Surf'Air and Fly'Air are identical constructions in different widths, all with carbon-fiber stringers to add stiffness without extra weight. Two extra rich models, the Powd'air and Crus'air, feature Scott's 3D Carbon Frame, which has cutaway sections in the topsheet that reveal the full-width carbon-fiber layer below, giving the ski a distinctive look along with the lightweight power and rebound of carbon fiber laminates. All Mountain series models combine the surf and flotation of a rockered tip with the powerful, reliable turn finishes (and backcountry utility) of a flat tail.
