During January, I spent an entire month testing the all-new Picture Folder Jacket in Silverton, Colo. I was initially wary of the performance  of this jacket made with a unique membrane—called Xpore—and a sustainable DWR application, since I hadn’t tested either before. But, after weeks of booting up in a cold parking lot, sweaty hikes above 12,000 feet, and a number of snowstorms and powder runs, I was ultimately very impressed by the jacket’s technical performance.

The shell has a very comfortable fit and perfectly regulated my interior temperature both when it was well below freezing in the early morning parking lot and when strenuously hiking above 12,000 feet with a heavy pack. A big part of this ventilation comes specifically from the Xpore membrane, which provides both a high level of breathability and a superior level of waterproofness (20K and 25K, respectively). The Folder Jacket is also coated in Teflon EcoElite DWR, which is PFC-free and creates zero waste during application.

In more than a few snowstorms at Silverton Mountain, the Xpore membrane and sustainable DWR coating kept me at a Gore-Tex Pro level of comfort and dryness hour after hour while skiing both from the lift and the bootpack. And all of the technology in the Folder Jacket makes it way more friendly for the environment compared to many other membranes and DWR coatings.

The freeride cut of Picture’s Folder Jacket is perfectly baggy and comfortable. Well-placed pockets are found all over the exterior and interior, and elements of comfort—including perfectly placed fleece lining and a removable powder skirt—make it a near-perfect ski shell.
