Seattle-based K2 Sports announced its plan to absorb the Full Tilt boot brand into its product line for the 2022/2023 season. K2 revived the Full Tilt brand, rooted in the original three-piece Raichle Flexon boots from Europe, in 2006 and ushered it into the next 15 years of progressive flex and innovation. Over the years, Full Tilt developed a cult-like following, especially among freestyle and professional big mountain skiers. The three-piece design inspired the development of a number of boot lines from other brands, including the Dalbello Krypton range, all of Roxa’s cabrio (3-piece) offerings, and many backcountry-specific ski touring boots.
“When we launched FT, K2 Sports gave us one mission: acquire the legendary Raichle Flexon boot shell and use the Full Tilt brand name to bring it back to life,” says Jason Levinthal, now of J Skis but formerly of Line Skis, K2, and Full Tilt from 2006 to 2013. “In the early years, thousands of skiers thanked us for bringing it back, while tens of thousands more discovered the boot for the first time, and never skied anything else after. It’s been amazing to see this boot counted on by skiers for over 40 years, so I’m glad to see K2 committing to keeping the original 3-piece boot alive, regardless of the brand name. Personally I believe that, although consolidation is usually best for the bottom line, it’s not usually best for the health of the industry. So of course, I hate to see the Full Tilt brand go away. However, as a business person, I also understand these changes will likely get these awesome boots on even more feet, more cost-effectively than ever before, and that can be a good thing, too.”
According to the press release, “Through Spring of 2022, Full Tilt will be continuing to push out product releases, provide customer service, dealer support, warranties/exchanges, support athletes, share unique content and run a dedicated marketing platform.”
