Big news for Armada fans and women skiers everywhere: Armada is introducing three new unisex skis and a brand-new line of women’s all-mountain skis for next season. The 2022 Declivity 88 Carbon and 108 Ti join Armada’s growing all-mountain family of skis, while the new ARV 106 fills a gap in the brand’s all-mountain freestyle line. Women can look forward to a whopping five new skis in the women’s-specific Reliance line.

Anyone who’s been reading SKI’s Gear Guide closely over the past years will understand that Armada, once deemed primarily a freestyle-ski brand, is not so quietly emerging as serious competition to the biggest ski manufacturers in the biz. Armada’s 2021 line of skis cracked the top 10 in every SKI Test category they were entered into, with the 2021 Armada Declivity 102 Ti nearly unseating the Nordica Enforcer 104 Free as Best in Test in the men’s All-Mountain Wide rankings. Expect the new Declivity 88 Carbon and Declivity 108 Ti to further strengthen Armada’s position in the men’s frontside and all-mountain categories.

2022 Additions to Armada’s All-Mountain and Freestyle Lines

Like the Declivity 102 Ti that earned rave reviews at last year’s SKI Test, the new Declivity 108 Ti features a lightweight and playful caruba/poplar core and Armada’s EST Freeride Rocker profile with tapered tip and a fully cambered tail. But the Declivity 108 Ti has just that little bit of extra girth underfoot to promote better float in powder and a bigger platform for crushing crud than the Declivity 102 Ti.

The new Declivity 88 Carbon, on the other hand, is a new frontside tool with carbon in the core rather than Titanal, making it the lightest tool in the Declivity line. Featuring carbon stringers running the length of a caruba/poplar core, the Declivity 88 Carbon was designed to quickly transition from edge to edge and pop from turn to turn on groomers and in bumps.

To round out the brand’s more playful ARV freestyle line, Armada is introducing the ARV 106 for 2022. This new ski featuring a poplar/ash core and Armada’s Freestyle Rocker will fit squarely between the ARV 96 and ARV 116 JJ to offer powder chasers a more versatile all-mountain tool.

Introducing Reliance, Armada’s New Women’s-Specific All-Mountain Line

Now on to arguably the biggest news from Armada in 2022: the new women’s-specific Reliance line. While ski brands have started to invest more time and money into the development of women’s-specific skis, most introduce one or two new women’s-specific skis per season. Armada is  putting five new women’s skis on the shelves in 2022.

The women’s Reliance line, which includes models from 82mm to 102mm underfoot, is built off the same chassis as Armada’s Declivity line and features the same core construction technologies. All Reliance models sold flat include a caruba/poplar core and Armada’s 2.1 All Mountain Edge technology. Two Reliance models, the 82Ti and 82 Carbon, are also sold with bindings in addition to being available as flat models. Those with bindings feature a caruba rather than caruba/poplar core.

The Reliance line includes three Titanal models—the Reliance 102 Ti, Reliance 92 Ti, and Reliance 82 Ti—and two carbon models at 82mm and 88mm underfoot. The fattest model in the line, the Reliance 102 Ti, features Armada’s EST Freeride Rocker profile, which gives this all-mountain wide ski big-mountain and powder capabilities. The rest of the line includes Armada’s EST All Mountain Rocker profile, with a flatter and more tapered tail for more directional performance better-suited to resort skiing.

Long story short: Whatever type of skier you are, chances are you’ll find something that suits your style and needs in Armada’s 2022 line. Look for full reviews and tester feedback on Armada’s new skis in SKI’s 2022 Gear Guide.
