If you've dropped cash for properly-fitting boots, socks with too much padding will undercut your investment. The impossibly thin Micro Fit socks, a blend of Lycra and polypropylene, don't dull crucial snow sensitivity, but they wick moisture away from your feet, letting the boot liners keep you warm. - Sam Bass, Senior Editor $15; bridgedale.com

Boulder, CO, Feb. 1--If you're planning a ski trip this winter, it may be worth your while to ask if the airline your about to fly with has any good ski-freebie tie-in-deals tucked into the fine print.

This winter, Southwest Airlines teams up with Breeze Winter Sports Rentals and Max Snowboard Rentals to offer people flying to ski resorts in Utah, Lake Tahoe, and Sun Valley discount vouchers on gear rentals. All Breeze and Max locations can be found close to the slopes.

To save an additional 15-to-20 percent, reserve your rental gear in advance through your travel agent. After two days of renting you can upgrade your gear at no charge for the rest of your stay.

This deal is available for customers staying between two and 14 nights all winter through March 30, 2000. So it may be worth checking the routing via Southwest, before you make your plans.

Whenever you book a ski trip don't forget to ask about any freebies that might go along with the package. Sometimes there's a lot more than just ground transportation included.

For further information or to make reservations call your own travel agent or call Southwest Airlines Vacations directly at 800-423-5683. For specific Breeze and Max locations, rates, and equipment information call 800-423-5683.
