YEARS IN THE BUSINESS:
Harvey often skis the same slopes as the athletes, but he carries $35,000 worth of camera equipment in a 40-pound pack. Tough? "It scares the hell out of me," he says. "Normally I ski without poles and carry my tripod. But in Alaska, that's not an option."
Harvey went the traditional Hollywood route, spending six years assisting cameramen on everything from
Dumb and Dumber
. He started shooting ski flicks in 1998.

Harvey bangs around his "totally bomber" Arriflex Super 16 SRII movie camera, but he obsessively cares for his lenses, sending them to Los Angeles every year for overhauls.
