The Speedwall S is a new ski in the Volkl collection, a high-performance hard-snow carver like the Speedwall L. But it’s narrower than the L (74 mm, where the L is 76 mm in the waist) and offers a slightly tighter, more slalomesque sidecut (16.5 at 173 cm). It’s sold as a system, and buyers get a choice of bindings depending on how heavy and aggressive they are – a 16-DIN or a 14-DIN. Volkl’s Code series incorporates race-bred performance and construction in three recreational models built for high-speed carving precision and performance on firm, flat snow. All models feature Volkl’s Power Construction: full wood cores, vertical sidewalls for edge grip; internal torsion box construction for positive tip and tail edge engagement. The two top models, Speedwall L and Speedwall S, are metal reinforced. All models borrow the Speedwall technology from Volkl’s Racetiger race skis: high-density sintered base material is used to construct the sidewalls, so they’ll hold wax just as the bases do. Moderate tip and tail rocker makes the Code skis significantly more forgiving than the true race skis, but they’re still built to have plenty of power.
