With resorts in the West starting to spin their lifts, Colorado’s Aspen Snowmass released its Covid-related guidelines for the coming season, including some vaccine requirements for close-contact, indoor spaces. Aspen Snowmass is scheduled to kick off the season on Nov. 25 at Snowmass.
Those vaccine-required spaces include all Aspen Skiing Company-owned hotels and sit-down restaurants, and guests 12 and over will need to show an official vaccine card, a photo of their vaccine card, or to fill out a vaccine-verification form. There are no restrictions for lift access, cafeteria-style dining, rental shops, ski school, or lift ticket offices. See the list below for details on specific properties where vaccines are required.
“We put a great deal of thought into this decision and feel that for the health and safety of our guests and employees this is a necessary step,” says Mike Kaplan, President and CEO, Aspen Skiing Company. “While we encourage all of our guests to be vaccinated, we feel this policy will most effectively provide protection in venues, activities and events where guests and employees will be in close proximity for extended periods.”
In addition, Pitkin County, where Aspen is located, has its own Covid requirement that skiers must adhere to this season, including masking up indoors and a new vaccination-verification program that businesses can opt into which exempts them from the last order. In order to get approval, businesses must have vaccinated employees and require eligible customers to provide proof of vaccination.
Pitkin County has some of the highest vaccination rates in the states, with 90 percent with the first dose on board and 83 percent fully inoculated.
