On Sunday, June 10th, Bode Miller's daughter Emeline accidentally drown in a pool in Coto de Caza, California.
According to the Associated Press, paramedics from the Orange County Fire Department performed CPR at the scene, and transported Emeline to the hospital. Efforts to resuscitate the 19-month-old were ultimately unsuccessful.
"We are beyond devastated." Miller wrote in an Instagram post on Monday. "Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this."
"As the family navigates through the path of grief and sorrow that no parents should ever have to experience, I would like to call on the community and ask to help take the burden off of the mountainous medical bills that will soon pile in and the memorial service costs," wrote the Miller family's midwife Lindsey Meehlies on behalf of Miller's wife, Morgan Miller. "Any amount helps."
Bode and Morgan have a son, Nash Skan, 3, plus two other children from Bode's previous relationships: Samuel, 5, and Neesyn, 10. Bode and Morgan are also expecting another child this year.
Bode Miller spent 20 years racing for the US Ski and Snowboard team before retiring last year to become a commentator for NBC Sports. He won the Overall World Cup Title in 2005 and again in 2008. He also won six Olympic medals, including Gold in the Alpine Combined in Vancouver in 2010.
