The ORTOVOX 3+ recall includes any model running on software version 2.1, regardless of color.

According to a press release from the company, ORTOVOX issued a precautionary recall of its popular 3+ avalanche transceiver running on software version 2.1. The brand's Safety Academy Partners were able to find a "temporary disruption of the transmission function" in "very rare situations." The software glitch could potentially extend the search process, which is not what anyone involved in a real-life burial situation would want when time is of the essence.

Luckily, according the company, there have been no known accidents related to the software glitch, and the recall is strictly a precautionary measure to ensure user safety and confidence.

Since its arrival to market in 2010, the ORTOVOX 3+ has been a popular transceiver option, and was covered by Skiing Magazine multiple times. This recall does not affect the ORTOVOX 3+ beacons running 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, or 2.2 software, or the brand's other transceiver models, including the 2018 SKI Magazine Gear of the Year S1+, S1, and ZOOM beacons. To find out which software version your 3+ is running on, watch the video below.

Recalled transceivers will be returned to customers with updated software that fixes the safety glitch free of charge. For more information about the recall procedure and how to identify the software running on your 3+ transceiver, visit the brand's website
