CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy Jan. 12, 2005(AP) – Austria’s Renate Goetschl won her first World Cup race of the season with a super-G victory Wednesday.
Goetschl, a former overall World Cup champion, won for the sixth time over the Olympia delle Tofane course.
“There is nothing better than to win in Cortina,” she said after her two-run combined time of 1 minute, 15.57 seconds over the 1.15-mile layout. “I have a special feeling for this course.”
Defending overall World Cup champion Anja Paerson of Sweden was second, 0.22 seconds behind, with Germany’s Martina Ertl in third, 0.45 back. American Lindsey Kildow was fourth.
Austria’s Michaela Dorfmeister finished fifth and has the overall lead in the super-G standings.
