Short-swing turns, or short-radius turns, are a lot like pole plants—without them, you can’t pull off a zipper-line through moguls. The short-swing turn isn’t a difficult tactic to master. It relies on the same fundamental skills as a medium-radius turn, but is performed at a much quicker pace. This means you’ll likely need to get the hang of linking short turns on groomed terrain before you try them in the moguls.
In this video, Glen Plake demonstrates how to link short-radius turns.
Narrow your stance and skid your turns on a flatter ski with less edge angle, “like a good Austrian ski instructor.”
