PARK CITY, Utah (USST Press Release)—A match made on the U.S. Ski Team – two-time Olympian Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) and Team alum Thomas Vonn married Sept. 29 at Deer Valley Resort’s Silver Lake Lodge. A fresh dusting of early season snow on the mountains provided the perfect backdrop for the skiers.
Vonn proposed to Kildow last New Year’s Eve in Kirchberg, Austria. “Of course I said ‘Yes!’ Of course, I did,” she said. After being friends while on the Team together, the couple started dating following the 2002 Olympics.
Family, friends and many members of the U.S. Ski Team attended the ceremony and festivities. The wedding party also was made up of teammates including alums Jonna Mendes, another two-time Olympic racer, and Katie Hitchcock (Sacramento, CA). Vonn’s groomsmen included former teammates Erik Schlopy (Park City, UT), Dane Spencer (Boise, ID), and alumni Wade Bishop and Jesse Marshall. Teammate and budding photographer Lauren Ross (Stowe, VT), who also took many of the photos in the 2007 U.S. Alpine Women’s Tech Team calendar, was the official wedding photographer.
The new Mrs. Vonn, who competed in her first Olympics in 2002 at 17, won two silver medals in downhill and super G last season at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Sweden. She also added three more World Cup wins for a career seven, tying her for third in all-time wins among U.S. women.
In her ninth season on the U.S. Ski Team, she already has changed her official name in the International Ski Federation and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association databases.
Vonn said she and her husband were planning to take a honeymoon in the spring, after the 2008 World Cup season concludes. She leaves shortly for a training camp leading up to the opening World Cup race of the season Oct. 27 in Soelden, Austria.
