HAFJELL, Norway (USST Press Release)—Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) finished fourth Saturday in a one-day World Cup super combined event mixing super G and one run of slalom. World Cup leader Janica Kostelic of Croatia padded her lead with her sixth win of the season.
Kostelic, who won the previous “super combi this winter in St. Moritz, tied Austrian Michaela Dorfmeister for first place in the super G portion of Saturday’s event. The World Cup slalom leader, she produced the third-fastest slalom run to finish with an overall time of 2:06.92; as opposed to a designated downhill and two runs of slalom, the super combined normally has one run of downhill (or, in this case, SG) plus just one run of SL.
Kildow, who was part of an historic three-tie for a super G win Friday (with the top four skiers just .01 apart, the top eight just .12 apart), was fourth in the super G and 12th in the slalom for an overall time of 2:08.31. She stands fourth overall in the World Cup points with seven races remaining.
Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA), sixth in the super G, tied for 11th overall while Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) had the seventh-fastest slalom to advance 15 places to 18th. Stacey Cook (Truckee, CA) was 32nd.
The women race giant slalom Sunday and then head to Levi, Finland, for two slaloms March 10-11 before World Cup Finals March 15-19 in Are, Sweden, host for the 2007 World Alpine Ski Championships. The U.S. Alpine Championships will be March 25-30 at Sugarloaf, Maine.
