Recent Study: Moderate Pot Smoking Has No Effect on Your Lungs

Study concludes what potheads have always hoped: Marijuana in moderation won’t damage your lungs.

No, this isn’t The Onion. Or an ad from a marijuana advocacy group. The New York Times posted a controversial  story this week citing a large government study that found that regularly smoking pot—one joint a day—over a period of 20 years didn’t impair lung function. Researchers with the National Institutes of Health followed over 5,000 stoners, er, subjects, in four U.S. cities starting around the age of 25. But wait, before you try to renew your medical marijuana license, remember: Everything in moderation. Heavier use did result in lung damage. So what constitutes heavier use? The study doesn’t say. But non-toking passengers on the Jackson Hole tram can now breathe easy.
