The Freeride World Tour has announced that big mountain skier Tim Durtschi will join the FWT20 as a season-long Wild Card. The 33 year-old—who had a stand-out segment in this year’s Teton Gravity Research film,“Winterland”—joins an athlete roster with 23 other incredible freeskiers, adding to the upcoming season’s potential to be one of the best in years.
“I have thought about this for some time now and I am super excited to compete in the FWT this year!” Durtschi said in a press release. “I am excited to put my skills to the test amongst an amazing list of freeriders.”
The current roster will see the return of the FWT18 overall champion Kristofer Turdell, FWT17 overall champion Leo Slemett, plus a number of other freeride veterans from Europe. Additionally, Tanner Hall is planning to return for FWT20, and there is an unbelievable level of talent in the rookie pool.
Although his professional skiing career has revolved around ski movies produced by Teton Gravity Research and Poorboyz Productions, Durtschi is no stranger to big competitions. He was a part of the FWT Skier’s Cup, the Red Bull Linecatcher, and the Red Bull Cold Rush. “I feel like my experience in the film world has prepared me for this moment and I look forward to this experience!” he says.
The first event of the FWT is scheduled to take place in Hakuba, Japan, on January 18-25, 2020.
