What will your legacy be?
What do Lindsey Vonn, Jeremy Bloom and Tim Burke have in common? For starters, they have each represented the United States in the winter Olympics and each has a list of accomplishments both extensive and extraordinary. You may not know it, but all three of these celebrated athletes are also advocates for clean competition. They have all appeared in promotional messages supporting the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) mission to preserve the integrity of sport and protect the rights of U.S. athletes to compete clean and healthy.
Do you ever ask yourself if you are competing with honor and integrity, no matter what shortcuts might exist? Are you committed to reaching your athletic goals naturally and honestly? If you believed you couldn’t, what might you be willing to do to reach those goals? Would you cheat to get there?
Questions such as these raise fundamental issues about the values inherent in sport. At USADA, we aim to empower the next generations of athletes to make smart, ethical and healthy choices. As the independent agency charged with conducting the anti-doping testing program in the U.S. for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, we strive to have an impact on the culture of sport and to play a role in securing its integrity for future generations.
Athletes like Lindsey Vonn, Jeremy Bloom and Tim Burke work hard to champion the ideals of fair play. They are leaving a legacy for which they themselves, and those who support them, can be proud.
Do you also believe that clean competition and fair play are important? Do you also seek to leave an enduring legacy you can be proud of? If so, put action to your convictions and take the I Compete Clean because… pledge by visiting www.USADA.org/ICompeteClean. Join the thousands of athletes who have pledged to compete clean and promote fair competition.
Take the pledge and show your family, teammates, competitors, and/or coaches that competing with integrity and respect is the only option. Show them what kind of legacy you wish to leave behind.
