WinterStart Fest to Kick off Holidays at Whistler

Whistler/Blackcomb's annual celebration boasts free concerts, visits from Santa, and World Cup Freestyle competitions.Whistler, B.C. Canada, Dec. 3--Whistler/Blackcomb will kick off the holiday season with the HSBC Whistler WinterStart Festival. This ten-day festival (Dec. 3-12) features a mix of cultural and sporting events including the FIS World Cup Freestyle competition.

During the event, Whistler's Village will play host to some of Canada's top jazz, blues, and pop artists who will perform free daily concerts on the village's main stage. Santa will also be in the village to entertain children of all ages.

The FIS World Cup Freestyle competition kicks off WinterStart's opening weekend with a head-to-head dual mogul competition on Dec. 4, and an aerial aerobatics competition on Dec. 5.

"We're very excited to have Freestyle open the HSBC Whistler WinterStart Festival this year," said Managing director of the festival, Doug Perry. "It will kick the ten-days off in style and create an exciting atmosphere in the village."

The Opening Ceremonies on Dec. 3, will feature live music and a parade with members of the Canadian Freestyle Team showing off their talents in a trampoline demonstration. Following the ceremonies, "A Taste of Whistler" will allow guests to sample food from many of the restaurants found in the village.

Other activities throughout the ten-day event include ski movie premieres, family activities, a snow carving contest, and Columbia Sportswear Super Demo Days.
