2012 Teva Mountain Games Slopestyle Mountain Biking

The rules and rulers of the game

Teva Slopestyle

The Teva Slopestyle is one of North America’s top freeride mountain bike events where athletes battle it out on a big air course loaded with gap jumps, berms, spines and creative man-made features that challenge the laws of gravity.  The rules are simple; riders are judged on creativity, amplitude and technique.  During the qualifying round, each rider takes two runs down the course, and his best score of the two is counted.  The top 12 riders then advance to the finals.  In the final round, all the riders take another two runs down the course, with their best of the two counting toward the overall total.

The highly anticipated Teva Slopestyle event, now officially in its fifth year, is attracting the world’s best mountain bikers who are all gunning for an $8,000 cash purse and major media attention.  Last year’s winner was Mike Montgomery, followed closely by Paul “Bass” Basagoitia, Anthony Messere, Sam Dueck and Kurt Sorge, who all threw down amazing runs.  Unfortunately “Bass” missed the award ceremony after knocking himself out attempting a double flip and was sent, fist-a-pumping, on a stretcher to the hospital. Naturally, that earned him huge props from the crowd.  Meanwhile, last year’s winner Mike Montgomery received an automatic entry into the Teva Best Trick Showdown and Red Bull Joyride, both part of Crankworx Whistler, which is the largest freeride mountain bike event in the world.  Look for these impressive athletes and many more while they step it up to another level at the 2012 Teva Slopestyle, presented by Chipotle Mexican Grill.
