25 Top Spots: #17 Park city, UT

Although it packs a whopping 3,300 acres, Park City doesn't scream "big mountain" from the base. You see a few beginner runs, well-formed bumps on Shaft, and a steep race trail (CB's, home of the Olympic GS). But ride the quads up and the real terrain unfolds in ridges, bowls, and glades before you: Jupiter Peak, Scott's Bowl, Puma Bowl, McConkey's Bowl, Thaynes. For après, the hip, gentrified mining town at the base is a party oasis in conservative Utah.

Hike 15 minutes from the top of Jupiter chair, then plunge down the face of Jupiter Bowl. Tougher chutes are skier's left of the main drop.

Praise the Utah desert, which brings the moisture content down to dust-mote level.

O'Shucks, with crack-your-own nuts and beer, is the local's place. HarryO's (a.k.a. Scary Hos) is the get-jiggy dance spot. Mother Urban's is underground and underappreciated.
