Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Active interest Media’s Outdoor Group covers everything from mountain recreation to outdoor industry news. Our brands consist of SKI Magazine, Backpacker Magazine, Climbing Magazine, Warren Miller Entertainment, AIM Adventure U, Outdoor Retailer Daily, National Park Trips, Outdoor Guide and SNEWS.

These 10- to 15-week-long internships are based at our editorial headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Duties include working directly with art directors, photo editors, and editors of each brand on the development of pages from inception to final production, designing and flowing text in a number of our department and feature pages both for print and tablet. Interns may also occasionally work on marketing material such as in-house ads or branding creative for web and print.

Our staff is small and interns will get an intimate knowledge of the day-to-day cycle of publishing national magazines and various digital products. We work with the Adobe Creative Suite. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are all used on a daily basis. A high level of proficiency in InDesign is critical. A passion for the outdoors helps.
