Artisans is an intimate, fire-lit Lake Placid restaurant that takes full advantage of their location right on the lake. The high windows and porches give you a great view as you browse the menu that utilizes the freshest regional ingredients to create a unique New American cuisine. Although options are generally limited to six per course, each choice is delicious and beautifully presented. Try the loin of spring lamb—tender, with chickpea panisse, panache of vegetables, and thyme jus. The wine list is large, so pick a bottle (wine by the glass is limited) that will compliment your meal. Although you can probably go without an appetizer (none are that impressive), you would seriously regret leaving without dessert. All of the desserts are homemade and will make your mouth water. If you are passing through during the summer, try the summer fruit crisp with vanilla ice cream. If you are around during the winter, the coconut rice pudding is fantastic. The passion fruit sorbet that comes on the side is delightful and refreshing even on a cold winter night.
