Aspen Introduces the new Limelight Lodge

Ideal Location, Impeccable Design and Family-Owned Hospitality Opening Thanksgiving 2008

ASPEN, Colo. – The new Limelight Lodge will re-open its doors Thanksgiving 2008 after a two-year demolition and complete redevelopment. Family-owned and operated for more than 50 years, the new, 126-room Limelight Lodge will offer accommodations ranging from affordable, standard rooms to luxurious two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominiums with kitchens, fireplaces and balconies.

Occupying an iconic location in downtown Aspen, steps away from world-class skiing, dining, and shopping, the Limelight Lodge offers doorstep access to the very best of this alpine paradise. The new, contemporary design incorporates thoughtful details to create an inviting ambiance and a culture of family-owned hospitality, from après ski cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the cozy Living Room to kitchenettes and fireplaces in the spacious guest rooms.

Guest Rooms and Suites
The Limelight Lodge offers 13 different guest room orientations, accommodating every lodging need. From comfortable, standard guest rooms with king-sized beds to spacious two-bedroom suites with expansive balconies and stunning views, the Limelight’s 126 guest rooms and suites blend the charm and personal service of a family-owned inn with modern comforts and amenities.

All rooms feature either one king-sized or two queen-sized beds with cozy duvets, spacious closets, large bathrooms and thoughtful, high-tech touches including iPod docks, complimentary High-speed WIFI and flat-screen HD televisions. Nearly every guest room features a kitchenette or full kitchen, and the hotel’s intelligent design allows for many lock-off arrangements that create multi-bedroom suites, perfect for families or groups.

While the new Limelight Lodge will offer moderately priced standard guest rooms, the hotel’s new suites are some of Aspen’s largest and most luxurious. The secluded Casitas are tucked in a far corner of the pool courtyard, and the expansive two-bedroom, two-bathroom Penthouse Suite features a full kitchen, roaring fireplace, and wrap-around balconies with unobstructed views of Independence Pass, Smuggler Mountain and Red Mountain. The Aspen Suites and Cathedral Suites span 700 to 950 square feet and offer the most stunning views of Aspen Mountain and the surrounding scenery.

Services & Amenities
Staying true to its roots, the family-owned inn maintains a culture of warmth and hospitality best experienced in the Living Room framed by a two-story wall of windows looking out at Aspen Mountain and Wagner Park. Several seating areas feature plush, comfortable couches and chairs designed for gathering of families or friends. The massive rock fireplace is the centerpiece of the Living Room and draws visitors to its roaring hearth. Each morning, guests enjoy an expanded continental breakfast, and during the ski season, they are welcomed back to the hotel each afternoon with après ski wine, hot drinks, and delectable treats. Or, they’re invited to step outside to the courtyard pool and two hot tubs for a spectacular venue to unwind after an epic day of skiing, hiking or serious shopping.

History of the Family-Owned Hotel

The Limelight Lodge has grown deep roots in Aspen, enduring more than 50 years in the constantly changing resort and remaining a family-owned business through more than four generations. The hotel at 228 East Cooper Avenue opened in the 1950’s as the Ski & Spur but changed names when Glenn Yarbrough and friends bought the property. Yarbrough’s band, The Limelighters, made the hotel their main stage. Over the years, the property was host to the Smothers Brothers’ comedy debut and a Judy Collins drop-in performance.

Nina Paas and her son, Glen, bought Yarbrough’s three-room lodge in 1962. Since the Paas family’s purchase, they have built an additional 35 rooms and acquired the neighboring Ski-Vu Lodge, Deep Powder Lodge, and Snowflake Inn. The Paas family now includes the Woolery family, and the entire clan still owns and operates the new 126-room Limelight Lodge. Their 50-plus years of experience are evident in the new design that incorporates the families’ personal touches like extra-wide hallways, tall ceilings, and broad balconies.

Pet Friendly
The Limelight Lodge was Aspen’s first pet-friendly hotel, and the new property continues the tradition of fun for the entire family. Four-legged friends receive a dog or cat bowl and placemat, and a dog walking area is available on-site. Pets are welcome for $25 per day, per pet.

Groups & Events
The new Limelight Lodge offers several guest room configurations ideal for groups including a two-bedroom condo and two, freestanding Casitas near the pool, adjacent to the meeting room.

The conference room features 1,800 square feet of flexible event space that can be arranged in a variety of seating configurations. Several outdoor spaces are available for receptions including a 1,320-square-foot outdoor balcony overlooking the pool courtyard and a smaller, 588-square-foot terrace with stunning views of Aspen Mountain. The Living Room, with nearly 5,000 square feet of usable space, is also available for events. The new Limelight Lodge in Aspen, Colorado is located on the corner of Cooper Avenue and Monarch Street, across from Wagner Park, and three blocks from epic powder skiing and riding on Aspen Mountain. Having just completed a two-year demolition and reconstruction, the family-owned Limelight Lodge offers a variety of accommodations with guest rooms that range from at $155 to $740 a night during the winter 2008 – 2009 season.
