Boatercross Returns To Monarch Mountain

Third annual Kayaks on Snow at Monarch Mountain is back April 5 for big collisions, slippery snow, and more.

Monarch, CO - Kayaks will be returning to the slopes of Monarch Mountain on April 5, 2008. Boatercross event sends multiple kayaks down a specially constructed Boatercross course on the Freeway run.  Kayakers from the Colorado, New Mexico region will be competing for prizes and bragging rights.

Previous Boatercross events have been a great event for spectators and participants.  The event sent Kayakers competing head to head down a course with banked corners, berms, rollers and small jumps.  A single elimination format matched the fastest boats in the finals. The winner is awarded a new kayak second place a cruiser bicycle and third place receives a 2008-09 Monarch season pass.

New Belgium brewery is the title sponsor for this year's event and the crew from Fort Collins will be giving away SWAG and prizes. KEEN footwear will have giveaway items for all participants.  An expo area with kayak manufacturers, retailers, raft outfitters and the staff from CKS will keep spectators entertained between heats. The entire event can be viewed from the base lodge deck and is free to the public.  

Participant registration for the event is $20 and includes an event T-shirt.  The registration opens at 10:00, practice starts at 11:00 and single elimination runs begin at 1:00.  For further information go to skimonarch.com or call 888.996.7669.

Closing day at Monarch

Monarch Mountain, Colorado, closed with a bang this weekend (sniff) in mid-winter conditions with its annual “Cook-off in the Lot” tailgate party. We were there to partake in the fresh snow, food and libations. Here are a few shots from the day.
