We're not sure what's strangest: skiing in Saudi Arabia, in a shopping mall, or on a segregated slope. All three oddities will come together in the city of Riyadh later this year when a mini-mountain for skiing, boarding and tubing opens at the hub of a massive shopping center. Per local custom, the facility will be used exclusively by women and children. An Infinite Crystal Snowmaking System, from New Jersey-based SnowMagic, is charged with keeping the place running and can deliver 50 tons of snow daily in 60-degree temperatures. (The trick: Water is frozen into thin sheets inside a massive icehouse, then pulverized into tiny bits and blown out over a slope.) Says company president Albert Bronander, "It's all about delivering snow to new places."
