Berthoud Pass 8:57am-9:50am Vertical: 1,630 feet

The morning sun lit up the West Side of Berthoud Pass as we watched contestants in the Berthoud Pass BadAss Series 3 Competition huck themselves from the rock shelves that stretch across the northwest side of the mountain.

We rode up the Continental Divide Lift and split into two groups. My group, lead by ski patroller Monica Wood, dropped the rope at gate 18 of the 80’s Chutes. Wood showed us the goods as we plunged into a descent. Great light, soft snow, and steep terrain made it worthwhile, despite the fact that my legs were burning.
