What a great place to end our trip! We took our first run down the groomed, but crowded Heavenly Daze and celebrated our victory when we reached the bottom. While those who did not want to take another run headed for the bar, five of us pressed on for one more run with World Freestyle Mogul Champion and 1992 Olympic Moguls Bronze Medallist, Nelson Carmichael.
What a thrill! My shins were killing me, my calves felt as if they were about to explode, and my thighs could barely support my bodyweight. But to ski with Nelson Carmichael had been a dream of mine since I was a young kid growing up in the East. His smooth style and laid-back attitude reflected to me what skiing like a champion was all about.
The bumps on Oops and Concentration were soft and fluffy (thank the Lord) as the adrenaline ripped through my body and, temporarily, quenched pain. Carmichael led the way down, still skiing with his smooth, effortless style. We stopped every so often and talked about the run and about the pictures I kept trying to take of him, but kept screwing up. I finally got one and we headed down towards the bottom. This moment will stay with me for a long time.
