When it comes to keeping skiers warm, trust Norway’s Helly Hansen, which developed the first technical baselayers way back in the 1970s. Top and bottom both sport hydrophobic fibers that transport water away from your skin. Tiny patterns woven into the fabric facilitate the wicking. Vail 2:50P.M.-3:30P.M. Vertical: 1,330 feet

Vail didn't really have anything planned for us, so we saw this as an opportunity to make up some time. The snow was good with 12-14 inches of new powder, but since it was so late in the day, it was a little cut-up. We skied fast, trying to fight off the shin-bang that had started to take shape. In the van ride from Vail to Arapahoe Basin, we all agreed that our shins and calves were starting to ask questions.
