Deer Valley Complimentary Hosted Tour Tout

A guided tour of the mountain is the perfect way to kick off any Deer Valley ski vacation, and our complimentary hosted intermediate and advanced tours truly go above and beyond.

We offer five tours per day—three intermediate and two advanced—which leave from either the Snow Park or Silver Lake villages. Advanced tours are just that: “We lead a true expert tour,” says Mountain Host Todd Anderson. “When people ask what kind of terrain we’ll ski, I tell them ‘bumps, trees, chutes, powder—you won’t see a groomed run all day.”

Anderson, who on his days off has been known to join another Mountain Host’s tour for inspiration on where to lead future tours, says a lot of factors depend on the guests. “Some people come with requests, but most are open to being shown new places.” Best-case scenario, says Anderson, is we show them the whole mountain. But that’s hard to do in 2.5 hours. (Intermediate tours are 2 hours.) “Sometimes we get to somewhere really good … and we just lap it,” he admits. The most important thing, of course, is that the guest has a great time.

Intermediate tours focus more on the blue cruisers, resort background, and local tips and secrets on how to get around the mountain. These are also the more popular tours. It’s not unusual to have groups of 20 or more. Which is not a problem, Anderson explains. “We just call over more Hosts!”

If you end up on an advanced tour with Anderson this season, expect to find yourself on the Mayflower chair, as it’s one of his favorite areas—never crowded with great pitches and glades. Ontario Bowl and Daly Bowl and Chutes are also high on his list. Sharing the most challenging terrain at Deer Valley is his favorite part of being a Mountain Host. “I love to show guests that we’re not all about the groomers. Although those are nice, too!”

Snowmaking at Deer Valley

Deer Valley Resort’s snowmaking crew has been hard at work for almost a month, in order to get the mountain ready for opening day on Saturday, December 3. Deer Valley® makes a significant investment in snowmaking to ensure the best quality ski experience for our guests. This snow provides a more durable base allowing for consistent grooming on high-traffic runs throughout the ski season.
