Vail, CO, Nov. 20, 2000 (SAM Magazine)–A fire causing $20 millionin damage broke out Saturday evening at Marriott’s Vail Mountain Resort, aslopeside hotel with 350 rooms.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but, according to the Denver Post, afrozen water pipe is being blamed for hampering efforts to fight the fire.In all, it took 78 firefighters six hours to bring the blaze under control.
The hotel was at 50 percent occupancy, but all guests were evacuatedsafely. As for the hotel, the fifth and sixth floors were destroyed in thefire and the fourth floor sustained heavy water damage.
