Paris, France, Feb.21 (AP– One of the oldest ski resorts in the French Alps filed suit Monday against two American snowboarders who allegedly triggered a small avalanche when they headed deliberately off marked trails, police said.
Police said the two American students, aged 21 and 22, deliberately ignored signs Sunday forbidding off-trail snowboarding and ducked under barriers put up to keep people out.
The two are living in France and were not identified by name. Police said only that their hometowns were Duxbury, Mass., and Quincy, Calif.
While no one was hurt, Alpe d’Huez is suing the men for endangering the lives of others by starting a small avalanche that swept onto a marked trail used by skiers of all ages.
No criminal charges have been filed.
