Hansel and Gretl Heist at Stowe

Two 21-year-old males were caught while attempting to steal the wall safe from the Trapp Family Lodge's Touring Center on the evening of March 31. A security guard interrupted their progress and called police. The two burglars sped off but, as a result of some critical mistakes, were eventually pulled over by police and charged with burglary. "They stole clothing and, on the way down the road, threw it out the window of the car," Stowe police chief Ken Kaplan said. "It was like leaving a trail of bread crumbs." And then there was the getaway car. "The kid had a vanity plate with his name on it," Kaplan said.
